First Day of Kindergarten! 8/24/2010

Dylan is officially a school goer!
He was so thrilled at the idea of school, he would ask me almost every day "Mom, is it time for me to start school yet?".  I would have to tell him "Not quite bud".

This time for me was bitter sweet.  I'm such a proud Mom and love that he wanted to go to school, and has become so independent.  But it was also sad that he has not been needing me as much, and also the realization that the carefree days of his younger years are now behind us. Amazing to me still (every day) that he's gotten so grown up so fast.  I just want him to pause for a little while, so that I have a chance to admire his youth!

As each new day brings him newly learned things, and new friends, he becomes even more excited.

The first day of school, when we picked him up I asked "How was school buddy?".  He said "It was GREAT!".  The second day of school when we picked him up I asked "How was school today?", he tells me "It was great again!".  And each new day brings the same answer.  I love watching him, being reminded of how it is to be young.

When we got home that first day, I was telling him how things were at home.  That Kaitlyn was asking things like "Where's my Dylan?", "Is my Dylan at school", "When we going to get my Dylan?"; Dylan thought it was hilarious, and would ask me for several days what she said today!  It's great that they are so close, and they like each other so much!  I couldn't be more blessed.

Some fun new clothes for his special, first few days.

Everything I thought he would like or need for class.

All ready to go.

Walking to school, for the first of many times.
Dylan asks almost every day if we can walk.
I think it's great for all of us to walk there.

In front of the school sign.
Waiting in line for the teacher's to come get them.
And away he goes.
I held back my tears.
It wasn't until I was walking away, realizing he was going to be there without me for hours; that I really wanted to break down.  But still didn't.
